BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING MINUTES MARCH 3, 2021

Call to Order
Lisa Dommes called the meeting to order at 7:10 p.m., noting the presence of a quorum.

Approval of Minutes
Minutes of the February 3, 2021 Board of Directors Meeting were unavailable for review.

Unfinished Business
The Board discussed the status of the website and the Master Series ToY data services provided by BBQData.

The Board discussed the draft Steak Cook of the Year Rules as prepared by the Steak Subcommittee.

Greg Boggs moved to adopt the Steak Cook of the Year Rules as presented. Chiles Cridlin seconded the motion and it carried unanimously.

Chris Scriver moved to establish the Steak Cook of the Year points chase. Chiles Cridlin seconded the motion and it carried unanimously.

The Board discussed the State Cup contest selections for 2021.

Chiles Cridlin moved to select the following State Cup contests for 2021: New York-I Love BBQ and Music Festival, New Jersey-New Jersey KnoQ-out, Pennsylvania-Smoke in the Grove, Maryland-Interstate BBQ Festival, Delaware-none/no contests scheduled for 2021, Virginia-BBQ Jamboree, West Virginia-Almost Heaven, North Carolina-Currituck Heritage BBQ and Bulls. George DeMartz seconded the motion and it carried unanimously. A selection for Delaware may be made at a later date if contests are scheduled at a later date.

Bill Jones discussed the need to establish rules or guidelines for the MABA Cup contest to address which teams are selected to compete if the State Cup winner is unavailable to attend the MABA Cup contest.

The Board discussed new sponsorships by B&B Charcoal and potential member discount offers.

The Board discussed the Agenda for the upcoming virtual Annual Meeting.

Committee Reports
Membership: Greg Boggs reported that 12 new Backyard members joined in February for a current total of 30 teams in the points chase. The Backyard Points Chase rules and application have been posted to the website. The points chase will be sponsored by Char-Griller and they will provide a choice of grills to the top three finishers as well as other prizes.

Publications: Chris Schriver provided statistics on social media responses to posts. The next newsletter should go out around March 17. Board members and other are welcome to submit content.

Finance: Bill Jones presented projected financial statistics for the year. Steak Cook of the Year payouts and awards will need to be factored into the budget. The Board agreed that Travis Murphy should be reimbursed for expenses of the Backyard website for 2021 until it can be integrated into the MABA website for 2022, as well as his Stream Yard costs associated with the Annual Meeting.

New Business
The Board considered an application for Rookie of the Year from Jerry Reel of Baby B’s BBQ competition team. The application was approved.
